State Rep. Steve Frisbie (R-Pennfield) announced today that he will be embarking on a listening tour throughout the greater Battle Creek area to hear from local residents about their thoughts and concerns regarding state government.

“House Republicans have been leading the charge on building a brighter future for our children and grandchildren in the state of Michigan. The people of this state made it loud and clear they want lower costs of living, better education, and a solution to finally fix the roads – and that’s exactly what we are working toward.”

Rep. Frisbie voted to save small businesses and tipped workers from devastating mandates set to take effect at 12:01 a.m. on Friday. In a bipartisan vote, the House passed a common-sense plan – House Bill 4002 – to protect small businesses from unrealistic sick time rules while ensuring workers have access to leave time when they need it.

“Seeking the American Dream is completely understandable, but we are a nation of laws – laws that must be followed,” said Frisbie, R-Pennfield. “As elected officials, we swear an oath to uphold both the United States and Michigan Constitutions, and I take this oath very seriously. We don’t get to pick and choose what laws we follow. Following existing federal law regarding illegal immigration is important to the safety and security of our local neighborhoods and the State of Michigan.”

“The people of Michigan work hard to earn a living, and too often, politicians forget that tax revenues don’t belong to the government, they belong to the people,” Frisbie said. “I came to Lansing to stand up for Calhoun County’s hardworking taxpayers. That’s why I’m excited for this opportunity to serve on our Finance Committee. Whether working to reduce tax burdens or deliberating over policies governing investment companies and banks, I’ll be focused on ensuring Michiganders can spend and save their money as they see fit.”

I am very disappointed to learn that the Department of Natural Resources intends to destroy more than 400 acres of state forest land west of Gaylord to clear the way for solar farms. This plot was made in complete contrast to the DNR’s responsibility to protect Michigan’s wildlife and forests. Simply put, any person involved in this decision should be fired. Clearing forests in the name of climate action isn’t just misguided – it’s downright delusional.
