On Tuesday, a resolution introduced by Rep. Jason Woolford (R-Howell) commemorating the 34th anniversary of the United States victory in the Gulf War was passed by the Michigan House of Representatives. The resolution declares February 28th, 2025 as Gulf War Victory Day in Michigan, and it is the first of Woolford’s sponsored legislation to be passed by the Michigan House.
“The day of our victory in the Gulf War ought to be remembered and celebrated for its display of our nation’s strength,” Woolford said. “The specific date came only four days after the U.S. armed forces began their ground assault, and they forced the fourth largest army in the world to surrender in under 100 hours of battle. That kind of quick and decisive victory unequivocally demonstrated our might to the world, and it is worth this legislative body reiterating that.”
Woolford’s resolution also references the impact that America’s victory in the Gulf War had on international security and diplomacy, highlighting the strategic region in the Middle East that would have otherwise been captured by adversarial forces. The legislation notes the vital allies that the United States gained, and the further established peace and prosperity achieved through their action in the conflict.
“This resolution also gave my colleagues and me the opportunity to express our gratitude for the service and sacrifice of America’s Gulf War veterans,” Woolford said. “We ought to be ever mindful and appreciative of every Gulf War veteran’s contribution to the banner of freedom, for some at the expense of their lives.”
Woolford spoke to the resolution on the House floor while joined there by a guest from his district, Bobby Brite, who is a combat veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom and was recently named the Livingston County Veteran of the Year.
