State Rep. Jaime Greene today celebrated the successful House vote on her bill to protect Michigan’s children from medical mutilation.
“The fact that this has been allowed to continue for as long as it has is sickening,” said Greene (R-Richmond). “Our children need our guidance, and for years, we have been allowing misguided medical practitioners to conduct irreversible bodily harm to our youth. That ends now.”
House Bills 4466 – 4468, sponsored by Reps. Greene, Paquette, and Kunse respectively, ban gender reassignment treatment on minors in the state of Michigan. A violation of the act would constitute a licensing violation for health care professionals. The plan would also require insurance providers to cover medical consequences from gender transitions and efforts to reverse the procedure.
“This issue should not be controversial,” Greene said. “Minors are incredibly vulnerable, and they cannot reasonably consent to operations that will have profoundly challenging medical consequences. The damage from these procedures will leave a permanent impact, and it will prevent them from achieving normal sexual development as adults. If a child is demonstrating symptoms of gender dysphoria, they need to be met with compassion, not scalpels.”
The bills now head to the Senate for further consideration.
