State Reps. Mike Harris and Jaime Greene today invited residents to participate in a Homeschool Freedom Forum on Friday, Feb. 9, in Waterford.
“Many Oakland County families exercise their right to educate their kids at home,” said Harris, R-Waterford. “While some politicians float new red tape on homeschooling, I’m looking forward to meeting with homeschool families and other interested citizens from our community. As state representative, I’ll keep defending the freedom of Michigan parents to choose the best education for their children.”
Harris and Greene will be in attendance to help answer questions about the right to homeschool in Michigan and proposed changes that threaten the freedom of homeschool families. A panel of experts from the Michigan Christian Homeschool Network, Liberty Leaders, AFP Michigan, Citizens for Traditional Values, and Salt and Light Global will also be in attendance.
“The new requirements Lansing Democrats have proposed are an infringement on parental rights, a breach of personal privacy, and an alarming expansion of state control,” said Greene, R-Richmond. “We must reject such overreach and uphold the fundamental principle that parents, not bureaucrats, are best equipped to make educational decisions for their children.”
The event will take place at 1 p.m. at New Wine Ministries, 2761 N. Williams Lake Road, in Waterford.
“Honoring school resource officers for their tireless work to protect our students at school shouldn’t be a hard decision, but Democrat leaders dismissed my resolution recognizing SROs to die in committee,” said Harris, R-Waterford.
